NACAG Funds N2O Emission Reduction Equipment for Uzbekistan’s JSC “Navoiazot”

On November 1, 2023, JSC “Navoiyazot” signed a grant agreement with NACAG, securing comprehensive financial backing for the procurement and installation of cutting-edge N2O abatement and monitoring technology. Anticipated next year, a public procurement tender will facilitate the acquisition of secondary N2O abatement technology and monitoring equipment.

This endeavor carries substantial environmental impact, aiming to reduce emissions by an estimated 500,000 tons of CO2 equivalent. To contextualize, this reduction is akin to the emissions produced by approximately 63,000 German residents annually. Navoiazot qualified for funding after successfully completing a comprehensive due-diligence assessment covering the plant’s technical, legal, financial, and operational capacities. This assessment included environmental, social, health, and gender safeguards.

Uzbekistan exhibited its commitment to continually reducing N2O emissions from nitric acid production by signing the Statement of Undertaking in January 2021. As a direct result of this commitment, Navoiyazot is now eligible for financial support to implement a catalytic solution, a pivotal step in reducing emissions and marking significant progress toward environmental sustainability.

As Navoiyazot embarks on this transformative journey, it anticipates not only a substantial decrease in carbon emissions but also an inspirational ripple effect, encouraging other industries to join the movement toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious world. In Uzbekistan, already two plant operators have signed the grant agreement with NACAG, paving their way towards climate-friendly transformation.
