NACAG and Uzbekistan Advance Cooperation on Climate Action

On March 19, 2025, the NACAG Secretariat met with Uzbekistan’s Department for Coordination of the Transition to a Green Economy and Development under the Ministry of Finance to discuss and coordinate the next steps in their collaboration.

Following Uzbekistan’s signing of the Statement of Undertaking in 2021, the country’s nitric acid producers became eligible for NACAG support. In 2023, after a comprehensive due diligence process, NACAG signed Grant Agreements with JSC Maxam-Chirchiq and JSC Navoiyazot for the procurement and installation of N₂O abatement and monitoring equipment. The total abatement potential covered by these agreements amounts to approximately 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent—comparable to preventing the emissions generated by around 1.62 million one-way economy-class flights from Tashkent to Berlin.

Both sides recognized the significance of the NACAG Initiative in mitigating emissions in Uzbekistan’s nitric acid production sector and its contribution to the country’s green transformation efforts, as reflected in Uzbekistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions.

The next step involves NACAG partners launching tenders for N₂O abatement and monitoring equipment. Under the NACAG financial mechanism, plant operators act as the sole buyers and bear full responsibility for the tendering process and contract finalization with the selected technology supplier.

Technology providers interested in participating are invited to take part in the market surveys:
