In June 2024, JSC Rustavi Azot finalized a contract to procure N2O monitoring equipment from SICK, a leading technology provider. This procurement, fully financed by NACAG, signifies a significant step towards climate-friendly transformation of nitric acid production in Georgia. Established in 1956 and situated in the Southeast of Georgia, JSC Rustavi Azot stands as one of the foremost producers of fertilizers and industrial chemical products in the Caucasus region.
The selection of this monitoring equipment followed an international public tender process, ensuring adherence to the highest global standards. Once operational, it will empower the plant to efficiently monitor and manage its efforts to reduce nitrous oxide emissions.
Furthermore, Rustavi Azot has also announced another tender for abatement technology, also backed by NACAG funding.
The collaboration between JSC Rustavi Azot and NACAG materialized following the signing of a Grant Agreement in November 2022. This partnership was made possible by the Georgia government’s formal endorsement of the NACAG initiative in March 2020. Through the signing of a Statement of Undertaking, the government affirmed its dedication to enacting the necessary policy measures for the sustained reduction of N2O emissions stemming from nitric acid production. This pivotal commitment paved the way for Rustavi Azot to secure financing for both the procurement and installation of nitrous oxide abatement and monitoring technology.
