In August 2019, a Technical Advisor from the NACAG Secretariat together with Jörg Ruger, the First Secretary on Environment from the German Embassy in Hanoi, visited the nitric acid production line of MICCO in Thai Binh, a nitric acid-ammonium nitrate producer under theVietnam National Coal Mineral Industries Group (VINACOMIN). The main goal of the visit was to evaluate the technical feasibility of implementing an abatement system to reduce nitrous oxide emitted during the chemical process. Technical meetings with the plant operators and with the Director of MICCO plant in Thai Binh were held to discuss about the different technical options available and applicable to the plant.
MICCO expressed its further interest in participating in the NACAG. Next steps towards implementation of abatement technology will be mutually agreed once the final results of the feasibility study are provided to MICCO.
With the implementation of appropriate abatement technology at MICCO’s nitric acid plant, the emission of around 300,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent could be avoided yearly, contributing to Viet Nam’s commitment target for reducing GHG emissions.
