In March 2025, a comprehensive nitrous oxide (N₂O) monitoring system of the Industry Automation Service, financed by the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group, was successfully installed at the nitric acid production facility operated by Groupe Chimique Tunisien (GCT). This marks a significant milestone in Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial sector.
The installationwas accompanied by a technical training session for plant personnel to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the equipment.
NACAG’s financial support was made possible after the Government of Tunisia signed the Statement of Undertaking (SoU) in 2018, committing to the permanent abatement of N₂O emissions from nitric acid production. Tunisia was notably the first country to sign the NACAG SoU, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to global climate action.
This achievement represents another concrete step toward integrating N₂O emissions monitoring into Tunisia’s national climate transparency system, aligned with the reporting obligations under the Paris Agreement.
